MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Ground has been broken on a multi-million dollar renovation at a Milwaukee park.
The Kellogg PEAK Initiative is aimed at making Tiefenthaler Park one of the most vibrant and equitable spaces in the city.
The Kellogg Family Foundation has already committed $5 million to the project in Milwaukee's Midtown neighborhood.
County Executive David Crowley, who played at the park as a child, says the new improvements are more than just cosmetic.
"Our goal here in Milwaukee County is to become the healthiest county by achieving racial equity," Crowley said. "Public-private partnerships like this are instrumental in helping us move forward as a community."
The partnership is still working to raise $1.5 million to complete all of the improvements planned for the park.
Construction is slated to begin this fall and will be completed by the middle of next year.
