KENOSHA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The first phase of Kenosha's Harbor District development started with a ceremonial groundbreaking Thursday, Oct. 24.
The nine-block redevelopment of downtown Kenosha will begin with two apartment buildings which will house more than 300 units and ground floor retail space.
The city's mayor called the first step the culmination of team effort.
"You look at the direction and the vision that we have for Kenosha -- ceiling and visibility unlimited for Kenosha as long as we work together and continue to do great things," said Mayor Bogdala.
In all, the plan is expected to cost $450 million while adding around 1,000 new homes and apartments in the area.
As for what's next, the city hopes to build a number of new office buildings and a hotel over the next 10 years.
