MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A new tower will soon grace Milwaukee's skyline.
Monday, June 16, city officials and the CEO of Madison-based developer Neutral broke ground on The Edison.
The 31-story apartment building will feature nearly 400 luxury units, a cafe, fitness center, spa, and even a movie room.
The tower's claim to fame is its building materials. Neutral is constructing the apartment out of mass timber, with the goal of using as much sustainable material as they can.
"It's a really big day for us because this will be a manifestation of what we are actually working on at Neutral, in terms of healthy living, in terms of tenant user experience, and last, but not least, in terms of design and engineering," said Chief Product Officer Daniel Glaessl.
Once complete, The Edison will break the record for the tallest mass timber building in North America.
The record is currently held by The Ascent, another apartment building in Milwaukee that stands at 25 stories.
