Greendale police squad crashes into pole in Franklin during traffic pursuit, officer expected to be okay

FRANKLIN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A Greendale Police Department Officer is recovering after colliding with a pole during a pursuit in Franklin on Sun. July 6th.

Greendale police say at around 5:07 pm the officer tried to make a traffic stop on a vehicle that ended up fleeing. 

A pursuit ensued before an uninvolved vehicle pulled in front of the squad car, causing the officer to swerve to avoid a crash. 

That resulted in the officer striking a light pole at 76th and Rawson Avenue, causing the squad car to start on fire. 

Police say crews quickly extinguished the fire.

Officials took the officer to the hospital for treatment of injuries, but they are expected to be okay. 

No other injuries were reported. 

Parts of the car also remained on scene after the incident Sunday afternoon. 

The investigation remains ongoing.
