NOW: Goodwill battling COVID-19 with its cleaning services, job placement

NEXT:

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58)--We're all on a cleaning frenzy these days fighting off the Coronavirus as best we can.  One national non-profit organization plays a huge role in helping with this mission, including right here in southeast Wisconsin.  Goodwill's Laundry and Linen department cleans millions of pounds of gowns, towels, and linens just to name a few items for hospitals and healthcare organizations.  Spokesperson Danny Harris says this initiative goes way beyond just throwing dirty clothes in the washer. It's giving a purpose, a job, to so many who live with disabilities.

As far as the Goodwill donation centers go, they are closed during this pandemic.  However, as many of you are doing some spring cleaning, those with the non-profit have advice for the folks who will soon be heading to the drop off sites. Communications Jess Owens says look at Goodwill's site to see what you can and can't donate.  Also, keep in mind whatever you're donating, make sure it's in the quality you would give to a friend or family member.

Also a big part of Goodwill's mission is job placement for the entire community.  A spokesperson says the organization is planning on boosting its virtual aspects of finding employment through career counseling and various workshops.  You can see what they have to offer by clicking here.
