Fresh Changes for March for Babies in Milwaukee

It’s a new experience at this year’s March for Babies.

The walk is the March of Dimes biggest fundraiser and it’s coming up on Saturday. Thousands of people will participate along Milwaukee’s lakefront.

March of Dimes has a big goal and it needs all the help it can get. The non-profit organization is dedicated to improving the health of babies and preventing premature birth.

The theme of this year’s walk is “Hope, Remember, Celebrate.”

March of Dimes brings hope to moms and babies through life-saving research and programs. During the annual walk, participants remember the babies who didn’t make it. They also celebrate those who did.

Organizers hope walkers will be inspired when they see the names of babies who didn’t survive as they walk along “Memory Mile.” They can then take a moment to honor them in the “Memory Garden.”

There are also some fun new activities for 2017.

\"Before the walk we're going to have a superhero sprint. So kids 12 and under will get to wear a purple cape and pretend that they're their favorite superhero. We're going to have a few local mascots and superheroes participate in the walk too,\" Angie Biersach, NICU Family Support Specialist for March of Dimes explained.

March for Babies is Saturday, April 29th at Veterans Park in Milwaukee. Registration is at 9:00 AM. The walk starts at 10:00 AM.

CBS 58 is a proud sponsor. Morning anchors Jessica Tighe, Mike Curkov, and Whitney Martin will emcee the event. You can sign up for the walk online.

There's also a walk for families in the Racine - Kenosha area. That one starts at 10:00 AM Saturday, April 29th at the Racine Zoo.
