Former Racine police officer arrested following standoff

RACINE -- Former Racine Police Officer Paul Garchek, 41, was arrested after allegedly stealing a television from Walmart and engaging police in a two hour standoff.


Mount Pleasant police say Garcheck was seen trying to steal a television from the Walmart on Oakes Rd. in Racine. He allegedly displayed a gun when he was confronted by a store employee.


Shortly before 5:00 a.m., Garcheck left the Walmart with the stolen television. His car was spotted just outside a home near Lindermann Ave. and Lathrop Ave. in Racine. Police arrested the Garcheck after a two hour standoff. Criminal charges have been forwarded to the Racine County District Attorney's Office.


The Racine Police Department reports Garcheck left the department on January 31, 2010.
