Former Milwaukee police detective sentenced to 6 years in child abuse case

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A former Milwaukee police detective found guilty in the abuse of a baby was sentenced Wednesday afternoon. 

Martinese McDaniel was investigated after his 2-month-old daughter was taken to Children's Wisconsin after she stopped breathing while in his care. 

According to the criminal complaint, medical staff confirmed the child suffered a brain injury, rib fractures, a liver laceration, and bruising.

McDaniel was found guilty on two counts of physical abuse of a child and recklessly causing great bodily harm. 

At his sentencing Wednesday, McDaniel was sentenced to six years in prison.
