Fond du Lac Police introduce new K9 "Sam"
FOND DU LAC, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Fond du Lac Police Department has a new K9 unit. K9 Sam was introduced on Wednesday after training with Officer Ben Hardgrove since April.
K9 Sam is a German Shepherd that graduated from a five week long training program in Campbellsport on May 17.
Officer Hardgrove previously handled K9 Packo for eight years from 2007 to 2015.
K9 Sam was born June 14, 2016 in Germany and has been certified as a dual purpose patrol and narcotics detection police dog. K9 Sam is trained and certified to detect illegal narcotics as well as track lost or endangered persons, criminal apprehension, and handler protection.
Officer Hardgrove and K9 Sam began their first shift of patrol on May 30.
