First peregrine falcon egg of the season laid at We Energies nest box

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- A peregrine falcon egg has marked the start of the nesting season at Valley Power Plant in Milwaukee, according to a We Energies announcement early Wednesday, March 20.

Rolo and an unbanded female, the falcon pair, have returned for their second year for nesting season, with more eggs expected in the coming days.

The parents are set to share the duty of incubating their brood, with the first chicks expected to hatch in just over a month.

We Energies' peregrine falcon program began in the early 1990s, installing nest boxes at power plants, and has led to the hatching of 444 peregrine falcons. That number reportedly accounts for 20% of the species’ population in Wisconsin.
