Fire in garbage chute causes extensive damage to apartment building

Debris in a garbage chute caught fire this morning and resulting in an estimated $250,000 in damage to an apartment building on Milwaukee’s northwest side. The fire was reported around 3:15 AM in a seven story building near N 76 Street and W Brown Deer Road. According to the Milwaukee Fire Department, the 75 residents of the building were able to evacuate the building and there were no injuries. There were working smoke detectors in the building. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
