Fiers struggles as Brewers drop fourth straight

Mike Fiers struggled in his first start of the season Friday, allowing five runs in five innings as the Pirates beat the Brewers 6-2 to keep Milwaukee winless on the season.

Adam Lind's two-run single accounted for the only Brewers runs of the contest. Pedro Alvarez and Starling Marte homered for the Pirates (1-3).

Scooter Gennett was ejected after breaking his bat in anger at the end of the eighth inning. Gennett had just been rung up for a called strike three. The Brewers, having burned through their other second baseman, had to play Carlos Gomez at the position in the ninth inning. It was Gomez's first career appearance in the infield, but he did not receive a chance in a scoreless Pirates ninth.
