Federal authorities investigate apparent drug smuggling operation at Wapun Correctional Institution

WAUPUN, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Governor Tony Evers confirmed federal authorities are investigating an apparent drug smuggling operation at the Waupun Correctional Institution. .
The investigation started in June of 2023 and resulted in the suspension of nearly a dozen employees.
The probe comes after multiple sweeps of the jail's housing units found inmates obtaining cell phones and illegal drugs.
