Fatal Crash Takes Two Lives in Rock County Sunday

Two people were killed in a head-on collision around 3:40 PM Sunday on US Hwy 14 near W Butts Corners Road in Rock County. 

According to the Rock Country Sheriff’s office, a 27-year-old man from Madison and a 26-year-old passenger from Fitchburg died at the scene of the accident. 

According to the RCSO, witness said the car driven by the man was traveling northbound on Hwy 14 when he apparently lost control of the vehicle in the middle of a curve, over corrected and crossed over the center line colliding with a vehicle driven by a 36-year-old woman from Janesville.   The two people in the northbound vehicle were pinned in the car that was on fire. 

Units arrived on scene and extinguished the fire.  Medical treatment was attempted on the two subjects but they were pronounced dead at the scene.  The driver of the second car was transported to a local hospital and is expected to recover from her injuries.  Traffic on Hwy 14 was re-routed for about five hours Sunday while crash scene investigators reconstructed the fatal accident.
