Fatal Crash in Rock County

 A fatal two-vehicle crash in Rock County leaves one woman dead and one man in critical condition. Deputies from the Rock County Sheriff's Office were dispatched to a two-vehicle head-on crash with injuries on W State Highway 11 by Austin Rd, in Janesville Township.

According to the news release, an investigation revealed a black Chevrolet Equinox, driven by a 78 year old female from Footville, WI was westbound on W State Highway 11 west from Austin Rd. A gray Volkswagen Jetta, driven by a 43 year old male from Janesville, WI, was eastbound at the same location. The Jetta entered the westbound lane for unknown reasons and the two vehicles collided head-on.

The 78-year-old woman was transported to Mercy Hospital by ambulance and later died of her injuries. The 43-year-old male was also transported to Mercy Hospital by ambulance and is in critical condition. Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts.

Due to the severity of the crash, a blood sample was taken from the 43-year-old male under Wisconsin Act 163. The results of the blood draw are pending and alcohol and/or drug use are unknown at this time.
