WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- It's a big weekend for race fans at the legendary Milwaukee Mile. IndyCar racing is back at the track after a 9-year absence.

There is a lot of excitement on Saturday, Aug. 31 during qualifying.

Fans say they grew up coming to the mile and they've been waiting for IndyCar to return for years.

The Milwaukee Mile is the oldest operating motor speedway in the world, with races starting in 1939 and ending in 2015.

Now, both seasoned and new drivers will compete in a double header today and tomorrow.
Fans say the return of the race signifies just how important Milwaukee is to fans and IndyCar drivers.

“The fact that they have two races in a row here and says how much they like Milwaukee. This track is one of the drivers’ all- time favorites so it’s a perfect place. And look at the weather — this is how we do it in Milwaukee," said Jon Majdoch, fan.

Tomorrow's race will be the second to last race in this year's IndyCar season.
Drivers will be back in Milwaukee next year. IndyCar has already scheduled Milwaukee for next year's season.
