Family reports 12-year-old stabbing victim walking around

WAUKESHA -- The parents of the 12-year-old Waukesha stabbing victim has reported an improvement in the condition of their daughter. In an online post the parents say their daughter is now able to walk around the hospital with family.

The 12-year-old girl was stabbed 19 times by two other 12-year-old girls in a Waukesha park on May 31, 2014. The girls lured her there after a birthday sleep over at one of the suspect's home.

Less than a week after the stabbing the family reports the girl is walking around without being connected to machines or tubes.

As parents of this little girl, we are overwhelmed with the amount of love and support we've been receiving from our family, friends and community. Our little girl is a fighter and is making strides of improvement each and every day. We appreciate your patience, love and support as we too are stunned and saddened by this tragedy.

She has been able to walk the halls of the hospital with her Dad. No machine, no tubes, just she and her Dad. She has been out of bed watching TV in her wheelchair as well. She seems to like sitting in her wheelchair as opposed to the lying in bed. She still gets a little ill when she easts so we're taking that slowly. She also gets overwhelmed very easily, so we're going to try to limit visitors and allow her to have a little alone time.

We thank you for keeping our family in your prayers during this difficult time. We will do our best to keep you apprised of updates on her progress. As our daughter is so young, we ask that you honor her anonymity and our family's privacy as we continue to heal and find our strength.

With love and gratitude,

Josef and Stacie
