MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) — A family is speaking out after a 56-year-old man was found dead inside a burning vehicle on Milwaukee’s north side.

Police are investigating the case as a homicide, and no arrests have been made. As loved ones prepare to celebrate his life, they say they are still searching for answers about what happened.

Family members describe Janson Johnson as a funny and kind father who was taken from them too soon.

“He had a wonderful personality. Every time he came around, he made everybody laugh,” Johnson’s sister, Deanna Johnson, said.

The 56-year-old was found dead inside a burning vehicle near 21st and Concordia earlier this month. Police say the vehicle had been reported stolen and they're investigating the circumstances surrounding his death.

Johnson’s family says they are focusing on remembering who he was.

“It’s been hard on all of us. We don’t know what to do but celebrate his life,” Deanna Johnson said.

A celebration of life is set for Saturday. The family is asking those who attend to wear blue, Johnson’s favorite color.

“Everyone that loved him and cared for him, come and celebrate his life with us, that's all he would have wanted them to do,” Deanna Johnson said.

But while the family prepares to honor him, they say they are still looking for answers.

“I just want them to find out what happened to my brother, and I want to know why,” Johnson said.

It took 10 days to identify Johnson because of the severity of his burns. His family says there will not be a public viewing.

“We went to the funeral home and there’s no public viewing. I wanted to know, so I asked them because I didn’t know the extent of his burns, but they said no, it was that bad,” Johnson said.

She says she struggles to understand why this happened.

“The extent of what happened to him, that makes it even harder, because he didn’t bother anybody for a person to do him like that. I’m thinking it’s personal,” Johnson said.

Johnson says she believes justice will come for her brother.

“I’m going to sit back and I’m going to wait, and I think justice is going to come for him, I’m sure of it,” Johnson said.
