Turning a tragedy into something positive for the community. The family of Bennie Bennett held a block party at 50th and Fairmount in Milwaukee.
25-year-old Bennett was killed exactly one year ago. His mother wanted to do something to remember him so the family invited the community out. They handed out backpacks for kids heading back to school in the fall.
"I'm just here to show people that even though your loved one is gone, you don't have to let them be forgotten," said Dinese Bennett, mother of the victim.
A 44-year-old man was also killed the night that Bennett died. There have been no arrests in either of their deaths.
