UPDATE: MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Police Department will be referring criminal charges to the District Attorney's office in the near future.
------
MILWAUKEE, WI (CBS 58) – A family is asking drivers to be more cautious after a man was hit and killed by a car near 29th and Center Street on Monday, October 22.
The entire block was taped off as investigators combed through the scene.
The Milwaukee Police Department says the driver did stay on scene.
Family and friends of the victim gathered as they shared their fondest memories.
“That was my Pooh”, says Diane Tharpe, mother of the victim. “That was my only son. He was my baby”.
Tharpe sheds tears as she looks over the scene where her son Darryl Tharpe was killed.
“He was 36-years-old,” says Diane. “He had two kids and now they’re left without a father”.
Police were called to the scene around 11:15 A.M. for a report of a pedestrian hit.
The Medical Examiner’s Office confirmed a man was killed after being hit by a car.
