Energy assistance application process begins October 1st

Today is October 1st, meaning Milwaukee County residents can now apply for  energy bill assistance. There are a few significant changes that should help the application process.

The three former sites where people lined up to sign up - -on Chase avenue, Teutonia, and North Richards are closed. There's seven new locations which should cut down lengthy lines that have occurred in the past but also because you can make an appointment that fits your schedule by calling or signing up online.

The program can handle up to 175,000 households, but only 60,000 signed up last year.  This year, the department is working with agencies like "Community Advocates" and "UMOS" to offer several new options.  Milwaukee County Executive Chris Abele says they hope these changes help people get the assistance they need.
