Emergency officials respond to suspicious chemicals near Summit

Emergency officials from several communities responded to a report of suspicious chemicals near Summit in Waukesha County around 4:42 PM Saturday afternoon. The report also stated that there were trespassers in the area at an old building.

When police arrived they smelled an odor and thought a secret clandestine lab may be operating in the area. Officials waited for a responding agency more familiar with the manufacture of clandestine labs before entering which is why the area was blocked off for a few hours.

A clandestine lab is a place where the preparation of illegal substances such as drugs, explosives or chemical weapons takes place.

Once a knowledgeable agency arrived, police checked the entire building of an old creamery but did not find anyone. 

The scene was cleared by 11:00 PM Saturday night.
