Edwood Hastings sentenced 12 years for fatal hit and run

MILWAUKEE -- Edwood Hastings, the man who killed 32-year-old Amanda Barringer in a hit and run accident, has been sentenced to 12 years in prison with another 10 years under extreme supervision.

Hastings turned himself into police custody for hitting and killing Barringer as she crossed Farwell Ave. on August 11, 2013.

According to the criminal complaint Barringer was crossing the street with friends around 8:30 p.m. when she was hit by Hastings. Witnesses estimate Hastings was driving 20mph over the speed limit when he hit Barringer.

Hastings told law enforcement he briefly stopped, but continued driving because he wanted to see his family one last time.

Before Hastings turned himself in, a citizen reported seeing his car in a parking lot on the 1400 block of N. Prospect Ave. The concerned citizen says she saw a description of the vehicle on the local news, and called police. Hastings wasn't around when police responded to his found vehicle.

The morning after hitting and killing Barringer, Hastings turned himself into police at the Municipal Court building in downtown Milwaukee.

As part of the sentence, Hastings cannot have a driver's license and must stay sober.  He also has to undergo extensive therapy.
