Easter Seals has waiting list for autism services

More children around the world are getting diagnosed with autism and Wisconsin is no exception.

Right now, there's a waiting list for autism services at Easter Seals of Southeastern Wisconsin.

Officials say they get calls daily from parents who want to begin therapy for their children, and their ability to take on more cases comes down to staffing.

Mel Roth, Autism Services Manager, said she's trying to bring on more staff to help children one-on-one.  She said early intervention and therapy is crucial to helping children and their families.

\"If you wait longer within life, the behaviors become more ingrained, it's more difficult to change those behaviors,\" said Roth, \"so we try to target as soon as possible when brains are flexible and really liking to learn.\"

Roth says many of the opportunities available are for college students and college graduates.  Anyone who's interested can contact Easter Seals.
