WISCONSIN (CBS 58) -- Wisconsin's annual Drug Take Back Day was this weekend, and on Monday, Attorney General Josh Kaul, along with other state officials, visited the facility that houses those medications before disposal.
Anyone could drop off unused prescription drugs, no questions asked.
Since 2015, 860,000 lbs. of medication have been collected in the state of Wisconsin.
Officials say drug take-back is crucial to keeping Wisconsinites safe.
"We want people to understand that Drug Take Back Day is every day," said Danielle Long, opiate initiatives advisor for the Wisconsin Department of Justice.
"By safely disposing of those medications, we're keeping people in Wisconsin safe and helping fight the epidemic," said AG Kaul.
The official prescription Drug Take Back Day is only twice a year. But the Wisconsin Department of Health Services offers a list of permanent drop boxes in the area. You can find a list of those by clicking here.
