Drivers line up for Milwaukee taxi permits

MILWAUKEE -- Many lined up at Milwaukee's City Hall to take advantage of new rules for taxi and ride-sharing services. A long standing cap on taxi driver permits has been lifted allowing several drivers access to taxi permits.

Jillian Imilkowski, a Lyft driver, was one of the first to apply for her public passenger vehicle permit. \"I'm really impressed with Milwaukee,\" she said. \"I think it's really a progressive city and I think it's really neat that they get to embrace technology.\"

The city no longer has a cap on how many people can operate a taxi. The new ordinance also allows companies like Uber and Lyft to operate legally in the City of Milwaukee.

Milwaukee Alderman Bob Bauman was the main driving force behind lifting the taxi permit cap, and new regulations for ride sharing services.

Milwaukee Common Council voted unanimously to do away with the cap last month.
