WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Wauwatosa Police say the suspect in a police chase and crash early Friday morning has been arrested for felony fleeing an officer and for his second OWI. 

According to investigators, a Wauwatosa Police officer was on patrol when he saw a speeding car in the area of Milwaukee Avenue and 74th Street. Due to a report of a car theft in the area, the officer followed the vehicle. 

The officer tried to stop the speeding vehicle near Vliet and 60th, but Wauwatosa Police say the suspect sped off as soon as the officer got out of his patrol car. 

The officer started chasing after the vehicle before the suspect lost control and crashed at the intersection of W. Vliet and N. 35th Street. The suspect, who was the only person inside the car, was ejected from the vehicle. The suspect was then taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No one else was hurt in the crash. 

Police say charges will be referred to the Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office. 

The Wisconsin State Patrol is helping with the traffic crash investigation.

WAUWATOSA, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Early Friday morning just before 2 a.m. a Wauwatosa Police Officer was on patrol and saw a speeding car turn onto Milwaukee Avenue from 74th Street. Police had a report of a car theft in the area that happened earlier in the morning around 12:30 a.m. The officer followed the speeding car to investigate if it was related to the car theft.

The officer attempted a traffic stop near Vliet and 60th when the suspect pulled over. As soon as the officer got out of their squad the suspect's car sped off again.

The officer chased the car which lost control near Vliet and 35th. The car rolled and the driver was ejected.

The driver was taken to the hospital with serious injuries. No one else was injured and no other property was damaged.

MILWAUKEE COUNTY (CBS 58) – The Wauwatosa Police Department says a driver was seriously hurt after a chase and crash early Friday morning.

Authorities say it started as a traffic stop near 60th and Vliet around 2 a.m. The vehicle then drove off and authorities initiated a pursuit until it later crashed near 30th and Vliet.

The driver of the car was ejected and taken to the hospital with serious injuries. Police say it was the only car involved and no one else was hurt.

The crash remains under investigation.
