Driver Attempts to Flee after Hitting Off-Duty Police Officer's Car

On Thursday afternoon at approximately 3:10 PM and off-duty Racine Police Officer was involved in a personal injury traffic accident. Lieutenant Days was stopped at a red light at the intersection of 13th Street and Washington Avenue when his personal vehicle was struck from the rear by a vehicle traveling west on Washington Avenue.

After striking Days' vehicle, the operator of the offending vehicle attempted to leave the scene. 

Lt. Days was in full uniform at the time of incident, as he had just completed his shift. Following the accident, Days pursued the offending vehicle on foot as the operator attempted to flee the scene.

The passenger was able to get away but Lt. Days was able to prevent the operator from successfully fleeing the scene, detaining this subject until other officers arrived to render assistance. 

Days is currently being treated at Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare for undisclosed injuries sustained in the accident. 

The operator of the offending vehicle involved in this accident was transported to Wheaton Franciscan Healthcare for treatment of undisclosed injuries and assessment of possible impairment.
