MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- October is domestic violence awareness month. On Thursday, Oct. 19, people wore the color purple to honor survivors.
In the United States, every minute, 20 people suffer from physical abuse from their partner.
The director of UMOS, the Latina Resource Center on Milwaukee's southside says there is a troubling trend in Milwaukee. Most of the murders we see in our community are domestic violence related.
The director says it's a situation that can be hard to get away from.
"The truth is the more options and resourced a victim has the safer they are. So, we believe you, we are here for you, and that is the message I want to leave for victims," said Mariana Rodriguez, the director of the Latina Resource Center.
