DNR: Crews battling roughly 2,800-acre wildfire in Jackson County
JACKSON COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- The Wisconsin DNR says crews are battling a large wildfire in Jackson County Thursday, April 13.
Officials say the Arcadia fire began at the north end of Fort McCoy and spans roughly 2,800 acres.
The DNR says 48% is contained, with crews battling the fire overnight into the morning with the use of engines and dozers to build containment lines.
Three structures have been damaged, and one shed was last. No injuries to people have been reported.
The cause of the wildfire remains under investigation.
State Patrol is monitoring smoke on the interstate and will shut it down if visibility is hindered.
The DNR says Thursday's weather conditions "continue to elevate fire danger." A red flag warning is taking place in 38 counties, with DNR suspending outdoor burning in those areas.
Officials say "campfires, ashes from fireplaces, outdoor grills, smoking, chainsaws, off-road vehicles or other small engines have the potential to throw a spark, ignite a fire and spread quickly."
Extreme caution is advised.
