Demolition underway at site of 5-alarm fire near 32nd and Hampton, road closures expected to lift Friday

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Demolition crews have been working around the clock at the site of a five-alarm fire near 32nd and Hampton since Thursday, May 20, according to a joint release Friday, May 22 from the Milwaukee Fire Department and Department of Neighborhood Services.

Work includes asbestos abatement and erosion control alongside structural demolition. A noise variance was issued to allow overnight operations.

W. Hampton Ave. is expected to reopen Friday afternoon. N. 32nd Street is also expected to reopen Friday evening.

Sidewalks south of Hampton between 32nd and 34th streets will remain closed, and the public is asked to avoid the area as demolition is expected to continue for approximately two weeks.
