Downtown mid-year review and more!
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- We've seen drawings of what Milwaukee's Streetcar will look like from the outside. Now, we're getting a look at the inside.
"Milwaukee Composites" is donating flooring for the Streetcar's first five cars. This isn't new for the Cudahy-based company, it actually makes flooring for streetcars.Â
Mayor Tom Barrett says the company is another example of the area's manufacturing history.Â
"This is the leading manufacturer of streetcar floors probably throughout the world. It tells you all the great things going on in Milwaukee," said Mayor Tom Barrett.
"We have to build this floor system with our people so they could have a legacy. Time for them to step up and say 'we made those,'" said Jeff Kober, President of Milwaukee Composites.
The streetcar will be known as "The Hop" and is sponsored by Potawatomi Hotel and Casino.
Part of the sponsorship means all riders will get free rides the first year the streetcar is open.
The first phase of the streetcar is scheduled to be up and running by next fall.
