WAUKESHA COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- A new resource center opened its doors in Waukesha County, Monday, Dec. 11.

The center, located inside the county's longstanding mental health center, is designed to help anyone struggling with their mental health.

The new facility is meant to give people experiencing mental health issues access to resources.

"Communities that open crisis stabilization facilities see that decrease in their psychiatric admissions, because we can get to the problem early," said Kirk Yauchler, clinical service division manager for the Crisis Resource Center.

According to the center, 19% of Waukesha County adults experience mental health issues.

The center was designed in a year's time, equipped with a handful of private rooms and personal bathrooms.

"It gives them the ability to be able to come and go in the community as well, so we could really work with them on that journey to recovery," said Yauchler.

Leaders with the facility said people can choose to use the center if they think they are becoming mentally unstable. It's a combination of live-in and outpatient services.

"Giving them opportunity to look at steps along the way, how to get back to a normal life for them is what we are looking to strive to do," said Paul Farrow, Waukesha County executive.

Farrow said the center will be operational 24/7, providing round the clock support for those who need it.

"Giving individuals that are dealing with whatever it might be -- a mental health crisis, an addiction crisis, another area they can go to, to care that they need on a pathway to recovery," said Farrow.
