WEST ALLIS, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Crews responded to a fire at a three-story apartment building in West Allis Tuesday, Dec. 29.
The call came in just after 11 a.m. for a fire at the Lincoln Crest apartments near 102nd St. and W. Rogers.
One of the residents who lives on the second floor of the building says he awoke to the sound of fire alarms and people screaming.
He called it "overwhelming," so he grabbed his dog and got out.
"I open the door and in the hallway I just saw a lot of smoke and black soot and I got my dog and we were out of there," said tenant Jeremy Swider. "I couldn't really see anything, the lights shot out and it looked like a lot of black soot just covering the whole hallway."
We've reached out to the West Allis Fire Department to find out if everyone else is okay and how this fire started.
