Crews respond after oil sheen found in Fond du Lac River

Fond du Lac Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched to the Scott St. Bridge in the area of Scott St. and Water St. for a report of a large "Oil Slick" in the Fond du Lac River.

Upon arrival, FDLFR Hazardous Materials personnel found pockets and areas of oil sheen floating on top of the water.

Crews immediately deployed hard booming, with an oil absorbent boom across the river in order to collect the unknown oil substance.

The source of the oil sheen at this time is undetermined. It may have resulted from storm water run-off from the large amount of rain that the Fond du Lac area has recently experienced.

The floating booming, which is located just south of the Lakeside west boat launch will remain in the river for the next couple of days to collect any residual oil. Boating motorists should be aware that the booming is in place and that travel on the river south of the boat launch is impassable.
