COWnselors show kids the ropes at Calf Camp in West Bend
WEST BEND, Wis. (CBS 58) -- This week, one of eight camps is taking place at Roden's Barnyard Adventure on Roden Echoe Valley Farms.
It may be summer break, but they're spending the day putting in hard work on the farm, learning how to feed and walk calves. Camps range from Little Farmer Camp to Calf Camp and Baby Chicks Camp.
"They're the future of our industry," said Jacki Moegenburg.
Before heading home, kids are able to enjoy the dairy of their labor.
"Once all of our animals are done, we do a snack and we like to do a lesson with the snack, so in the morning we might make butter, ice cream," said Moegenburg.
"Whether it's becoming farmers or being a restaurant owner, "It's so much a part of agriculture, and if we can get that passion in them at a young age, they're going to be a great asset to us in the future," she said.
Camps fill up quickly, and Moegenburg hopes to be able to add more spots next summer. They're always looking for COWnselors to teach kids the ropes.
