DELAFIELD-The Delafield Common Council voted unanimously to uphold the Plan Commission’s vote to deny a conditional use permit for a shooting range at the Hartland Sportsmen’s Club.
The range closed in April 2010 when a stray bullet from the club hit a pregnant woman who was eating at a nearby restaurant.
The woman made a full recovery and the baby was not hurt.
The Club offered a series of modifications to the property aimed at preventing stray bullets from flying outside its perimeter.
Public comment seemed overwhelmingly against, although some, including a local boy scout troop, argued that the range was necessary to teach gun safety and had value in the community.
