Coast Guard: 3 people rescued after boat starts sinking in Lake Michigan
OZAUKEE COUNTY, Wis. (CBS 58) -- Three people were rescued from Lake Michigan Monday night, after officials say their boat started to sink.
According to the U.S. Coast Guard, they received a mayday call at 9:15 p.m., which launched a water and air search of the sinking vessel.
Officials say a Good Samaritan heard one of the victims yelling for help.
U.S. Coast Guard personnel, along with Ozaukee County Sheriffs and Port Washington Fire Department members found the three people in the water; one person wearing a life jacket was responsive and two others were found unresponsive.
All three were transported to Port Washington fuel pier for treatment and later taken to an area hospital.
“This all-hands effort highlights the partnership we have with our local partners, with their help we were able to find all three people from the vessel that sank tonight,” said Petty Officer 2nd Class Kimberly Miller, Station Milwaukee Coxswain. “The one responsive person we rescued was also wearing a life jacket, which was critical in buying us time to find them and pull them out.”
