City of Racine and Racine County launch new initiative to reduce crime

RACINE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- This weekend, the city of Racine and Racine County are launching a new initiative to reduce crime.

This year, there have been more murders, non-fatal shootings and shots fired than last year.

This new collaboration aims to reduce those numbers.

The city and county will be joined by the police department, Sheriff's office, DA's office and community groups.

They want to increase transparency and build relationships to prevent crime from happening.

"We've got to immediately inject confidence into the people of Racine County and the city of Racine that we're committed to making it safe," said Jonathan Delagrave, Racine County Executive.

The initiative has three components: A violent crime task force, community programming and community engagement.
