MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- City leaders are taking preventative measures when it comes to reckless driving trends in Milwaukee just a day after three people died in result of reckless driving. Two of those victims have been tentatively identified as two males between the ages of 34 and 44 years old.

On Thursday night, MPD says they were involved in a suspected drug dealing and reckless driving incident. They attempted a traffic stop, but the vehicle fled recklessly, and the vehicle pursuit began.

Police say the pursuit lasted one minute before the vehicle lost control and crashed off the 16th Street bridge.

While the vehicle crossed the sidewalk before crashing, an 18-year-old Milwaukee woman was struck with minor injuries.

"Seeing how short that particular situation was and just how dangerous it was, I mean to see that type of end result is very disheartening," said Chief Jeffrey Norman of the Milwaukee Police Department.

Chief Norman, Mayor Cavalier Johnson and the Department of Public Works addressed the reckless driving issue in the city during a reckless driving tow policy event.

"I say this time and again, if somebody causes death, harm and destruction in Milwaukee, they should be held to account," said Mayor Cavalier Johnson about tackling the reckless driving issue.

They've rolled out the Tow Policy to help combat that issue, MPD sharing that reckless driving reports have decreased by 21 percent.

City officials said they will continue to do what it takes to lower those numbers.
