LOS ANGELES, Wis. (CBS 58) -- We've already explored the special connection Christian Yelich has to Los Angeles growing up in Southern California, but here's another piece of sports trivia regarding Yelich.
His maternal great-grandfather is Fred Gehrke who is in the Pro Football Hall of Fame. Gehrke did play, but he's actually in the Hall for his innovations.
Gehrke was the first person to put a logo on a football helmet. Back in 1948 his boss paid him a dollar a helmet to paint the LA Rams logo on every single one.
The Rams still use the design to this day.
