Children’s Wisconsin to move and expand Emergency Department in Milwaukee

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) – Children’s Wisconsin is planning to expand and move its Emergency Department and Level 1 Trauma Center at its Milwaukee campus.

The Emergency Department and Level 1 Trauma Center will be moved to the front of the hospital to improve access, child and family experience and patient care, according to a press release.

The expansion was originally announced in 2018 as part of a multi-year improvement project. The project has received $10 million in donations.

A portion of the money will also be used to create four rooms specifically designed to support kids experiencing a mental health crisis. The unit will be supported by a new mental and behavioral health crisis team.

When completed, the new Emergency Department will expand from 34 to 48 treatment rooms. It is expected to be finished in 2023.

The trauma center will remain fully operational during construction.

A live webcam of the construction site is available on the Children's website.
