KANSASVILLE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- In a press conference Wednesday afternoon Racine Sheriff Schmalling said the father of the 15-year-old was the one who found him and called 911. The teen was found about 200 yards behind his house in the town of Dover.
Officials performed life saving measures on the teen, but he was pronounced dead at the scene. The cause of the death is unknown.
The 15-year-old has been identified as Austin Sanders who was a sophomore at Union Grove High School.
The teen's mother, Pauline Sanders, was the woman arrested at the scene for bail jumping and drug charges.
Wednesday night, hundreds of students attended a spirit week event at the high school.
"He was a good friend and kind of a class clown to everyone, everyone got along with him," said Brennan Routheaux. "I hope he rests good up there. I'm gonna miss him."
Routheaux says Sanders had some family problems at home. He's hoping to learn soon how the death happened.
"I'm still in shock right now," he said, "I don't get how he got into the pond at all," he said.
Grief counselors will be at Union Grove High School tomorrow to help students cope with the death of their classmate.
