Charges Filed Against West Allis Man in Interstate Shooting

Sauk County District Attorney’s Office filed charges for the fatal interstate shooting on Sunday against Zachary Hays.

Hays, age 20, of West Allis was charged for one count of First Degree Intentional Homicide and three counts of First Degree Recklessly Endangering Safety.

According to a release of Sauk County Sheriff's Office, this was a

 Multiple counties, including Milwaukee, Columbia, Sauk, and Dane are continuing to investigate collaboratively to determine what charges will be referred to the respective District Attorneys. 

His brother, Jeremy A. Hays, age 30, is being held on a tentative charge of Felon in Possession of a Firearm. The 34-year-old brother is not being named due to his cognitive disability.

 Tracey Czaczkowski was the victim in Sunday’s drive-by shooting.  

According to the criminal complaint, Jeremy Hays told police Zachary threatened to kill him and his other brother if they left him.

Jeremy told police, that near the Wisconsin Dells Zachary "began flipping people off" and driving erratically. 

He allegedly freaked out about the tinted windows on the sedan and shot at it three tiems. 

Hays faces life in prison if convicted.
