Celebrate the Chinese New Year This Weekend
MILWAUKEE (CNN/CBS 58) - Saturday will usher in the Year of the Rooster and wish 2016, the Year of the Monkey, adieu.
Chinese New Year celebrations begin Friday around the world.
Weekend festivities are being held across Southeast Wisconsin.
The Milwaukee Chinese Community Center is hosting a new year party Saturday afternoon. Registration opens at 2 p.m. It costs $16 per person or $8 for children younger than eight years old.
The Shaolin Center is hosting several lion dances over the weekend.
Diners at the Golden Gate Restaurant in Waukesha will be treated to a dance Saturday afternoon. It begins at 2 p.m.
Lion dances will also take place Saturday evening at the Potawatomi Casino in Milwaukee. Dance times are 6:30, 7:30 and 8:30 p.m.
The ShaoLin Center will host an afternoon celebration Sunday. It runs from 12:30 to 3 p.m.
According to the center's website, festivities include dancing, martial arts demonstrations, student recognitions, and honoring ancestors.
