CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: Jovanovich ready for year 2 with the Panthers
MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- Danilo Jovanovich was a force at Whitnall high school. But that's the last time he played in the same place for back-to-back seasons --until now.
"There's nothing like home."
After a final four run redshirting with Miami and a season at Louisville the 6'8" forward nicknamed "DLO" transferred to Milwaukee. Year one was limited by injuries, but the Panthers are expecting big things in year two.
"Nobody in our league has any idea how good DLO is cause he was hurt last year. He's one of the best players not only in the league but in the country and nobody knows that," said Panthers Coach Bart Lundy.
"It's going to bring a different aspect to our team. For him to be able to showcase what he's capable of doing," said Faizon Fields, teammate.
It's a safe bet that DLO will put up career numbers across the board if he stays healthy, but he's not worried about points, rebounds or assists…just getting back to the NCAA Tournament.
"I just feel like for us as players we talk about it all the time and we need to get there, it's not a negotiable this year, we need to get there," said Jovanovich.
What's the key to punching their ticket?
"Celebrating everyone's success," said Jovanovich. "We had so much talent last year, but we would drift apart throughout games sometimes and just blow up. This group is so tight knit and it's a recipe for success."
The recipe worked in the opener as the Panthers beat Hampton by four starting their season off on the right foot.
