David Crowley accepts Democratic nomination for Wisconsin governor

Crowley held his victory news conference at Milwaukee’s Sherman Phoenix, thanking his family, supporters, Gov. Tony Evers and his Democratic primary opponents.

"Today, I stand before you filled with gratitude, with humility and hope as I formally accept the Democratic nomination to be the next governor of the great state of Wisconsin," Crowley said.

He framed his general election goals around affordability, health care, education and economic opportunity while arguing the Democratic coalition should extend beyond ideological labels when asked about embracing the supporters of his closest contender in the Democratic primary, democratic socialist Francesca Hong.

"We may not agree on every policy. We may not use the same labels, but we all want safe communities, strong schools, affordable health care, good-paying jobs and a brighter future for all of our children," Crowley said.

Crowley repeatedly criticized Tiffany and his alignment with President Donald Trump, saying his Republican opponent has supported policies that hurt Wisconsin families.

Asked about uniting Democrats after the primary, Crowley said he expects to meet with his former opponents soon for a "unity tour" with the goal being to ensure that a supporter of Trump's Make America Great Again movement does not end up being the governor of Wisconsin.

"This historic moment is not lost on me, but I’m not even thinking about that because we've still got work to do," Crowley said.
