CBS 58's Hometown Athlete: Jack Gohlke adds to pride Pewaukee players have in their community
PEWAUKEE, Wis. (CBS 58) -- At basketball camps in his hometown, Jack Gohlke loves to give back.
"To be able to see my name on a T-shirt," Jack Gohlke says, "Like I ran a boys camp a month ago. And I saw a couple boys walking around in the city, in Pewaukee, with a T-shirt on that said my name. And that's pretty cool to see."
At this girls camp, or boys basketball in Pewaukee, the Pirates are usually title contenders.
"I was talking to with one of my buddies, Grant, who I played with in high school," Gohlke says. "We're almost a little jealous of all the success they've had. But super happy for them. Obviously, it's all great things. And to see them be that successful and to see them keep developing, like I think it starts with stuff like this."
Gohlke will always be known as the Oakland player who hit 10 3's against Kentucky in an NCAA tournament game. One shy of the record.
"If I'm in right area," Gohlke says. "If I'm in an area with a bunch of basketball fans. Or especially like a bunch of college guys."
Kentucky fans?
"Exactly," Gohlke says with a laugh. "They're hounding me. They're asking questions. Like wanna take a picture and stuff like that. I was that kid back in the day, with whatever player it was. I remember like Frank Kaminsky. I met him one time when I was a little kid, and just, that was so cool for me. So, to be able to have a positive impact on players, I really cherish that."
With so many great Pewaukee products, Gohlke says, "I hope I can make the Mount Rushmore. But yeah, we've had some amazing athletes. I'm just lucky to be mentioned, especially with the names of the Watts, and I mean, they've obviously done so much for this community."
But for now? He'll play pro ball in Brazil.
"Trying to make the NBA one day," Gohlke says. "But as long as I can say I get paid to play my favorite game, like I call myself pretty lucky."
