Best showing ever: CBS 58 wins 6 first place prizes at Milwaukee Press Club Awards 🏆

MILWAUKEE (CBS 58) -- The Milwaukee Press Club held its annual awards ceremony Saturday night, May 8, honoring the best journalism from across Wisconsin. 

Your hometown station had its best showing ever at the Milwaukee Press Club Awards winning six first-place prizes.

That included Scott Grodsky winning best individual reporting of sports, as well as best newscast for our coverage of the Maxwell Anderson verdict.

Our "CBS 58 Sunday Morning" show won best regularly scheduled news or sports program. 

Photojournalist Kobe McDonald and reporter A.J. Bayatpour won best short hard feature story in audio for their profile of volunteer instructors helping Milwaukee Public Schools students improve their reading. 

Reporter Montse Ricossa and photojournalist Susanne Barthel won first place for Best Long Hard Feature Story for their reporting on the long recovery ahead for a shooting victim from Abundant Life Christian School. 

Anchor and reporter Mike Curkov and photojournalist Jerry Imig won first place for Best Long Soft Feature Story on Hope Kittel's remarkable journey to world champion.

Other wins included:

  • Best Editing's 2nd place went to Susanne Barthel
  • 3rd place to Adam Rife for Best Coverage of a Breaking News Story
  • Lance Allan won 3rd place for Best Individual Reporting of Sports
  • Our newscast on the Historic Flooding from a few weeks ago won 3rd place
  • Mike Curkov and photojournalist Jerry Imig won third place for their Best Short Soft Feature Story on 'Gene Wagner Never Misses a Shift'
  • Montse Ricossa and Jon Jenkins in 2nd place for Best Writing in a Video Story on Wisconsin's Real-Life Lorax
  • Duaa Israr and Brandon Seffrood won 3rd place for Best Writing in a Video Story
  • Michele Fiore and photojournalist Mark Cherek won 2nd place in Audio for Best Long Soft Feature Story
