SHEBOYGAN, Wis. (CBS 58) — Brats are a summertime staple with strong roots in our Hometown of Sheboygan. In fact, in 1970, it was deemed "Bratwurst Capital of The World" by a local judge after a fierce competition with Bucyrus, Ohio to earn the naming rights.
The history of this sausage and this particular community actually dates back to the 1850s, when Germans settled in this area. As part of the city's centennial celebrations in 1953, Brat Days came about and became an annual tradition.
CBS 58's Michael Schlesinger had the chance to learn more about this rich history, courtesy of the Sheboygan County Museum and the good folks from Brockman's Meat Market.
